Rationale & Links

The main purpose of my website was to simplify the Stuff Website as I found it hard to browse through the existing website. I did this by designing negative space and not filling it with advertisements (as these can be very distracting. Especially when reading half way through an article). I applied rule lines to make navigating simplistic as possible and easy to navigate though heavy text and information, I also decided to stick with a similar grid throughout my website for the users to get into a repetitive rhythm when navigating  throughout the website.  I applied symbols to my website categories as this can make the user journey even more mindless and easy to navigate through. For my cell phone version i decided to put the  navigation bar down the bottom to make accessibility physically reachable, i also added the hamburger menu to the bottom nav bar which i believe makes the journey even more  convenient and user friendly. I applied 3D buttons throu...

This week we did user testing in class. This allowed me to view others user journeys which helped me recognise little things that I'm missing in my user journeys such as a print function etc. It always allowed me to take people through my journeys and realise where the faults are.  This week and i am continuing refining my style and minimal changes to my journeys to create them more user friendly, such as making buttons 3D to make them it obvious that they are clickable.  I have started my coding and are nearly finalised the article page.

I have begun to style my website some more and change a few things such as refining my icons into something more simplistic as the colours and icons colours and boldness were competing with one another. I have changed them into lined illustrations to make them more simplistic. I have altered my grid a bit more to make it more consistent and make the icons on the left look clickable instead of creating buttons to tell the user what to do. Now that I'm starting to get my journeys finalised I'm looking more into usability and making the website as simple and mindless as possible for users. I started with having x2 different sections on the menu (video and podcast) however i have now decided to combine these two. I have also changed the thickness of the lined bar along the top menu on the laptop version and removed some. They were too heavy and un-nessasary for my website. On article pages I have decided to make the headline onto of the images to make them apart of ...

We did another coding tutorial in class which was helpful to get back into. I can't get a video on XD but i will be able to embed this into my coding (hopefully).

This week has been about finalising my XD files and hopefully getting onto coding by start of Wk5 I have also looked more into the style of my Website and have decided to expand my Nation and world search. This Video would ideally be interactive and when you click on a country it will enlarge so you can select country news or go into finer deatiled community news.  Before After

After having our User testing it allowed me to look at my work differently. What i looked into and changed: Instead of having a home page with all the information on the cell phone screen when scrolling down, i am going to put the headline news and its category and a drop down menu to be able to browse this category more without leaving the home page. This will allow the journey to find their chosen destination easier.  I will add an arrow underneath the category to see the sub categorys on the home page. This allows the menu to stay simplistic.  I will add a chrome button option for Andrea to connect her phone to the TV This user testing was good to see where other perl are at and to review my layout. I have chosen this simple layout to create an easy user journey to find categories without all the extras. Wire Frames:
